As the fires raged out of control throughout the Los Angeles area on Wednesdayconsuming more than 28,000 hectares of land, destroying thousands of homes and buildings including entire neighborhoods, and causing the death of at least five people, President-elect Donald Trump, his MAGA henchmen, right-wing commentators, conservative media and the extremes right-wing conspiracists don’t blame climate change or eight months without rain, but wokeism.
Trump – who strongly supports the expansion of the extraction and use of fossil fuels, which scientific consensus directly connect to the increasing prevalence of extreme weather events – he used the unfolding tragedy to attack his longtime nemesis, California Governor Gavin Newsom. He said that the Democrat’s embrace of environmental issues was to blame for the inability of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to contain what is already the worst fire in California history.
“Gov. Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and melting snow from the North, to flow every day in many parts of California, including areas that are currently on fire in a practically apocalyptic manner,” Trump wrote in Social Truth. “He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called smelt by giving it less water (it didn’t work!), but he didn’t care about the people of California.”
The governor’s press office released a statement Wednesday slamming Trump’s comment and pointing out that “there is no such document as the declaration of water restoration – which is pure fiction”.
The Democrats’ embrace of so-called awakening policies has become a universal bogeyman for the right in recent years. As in previous generations, they blame political correctness and affirmative action for various problems, after major events such as assassination attempt against Trump last July and Baltimore bridge collapse last March, they now routinely accuse wokeism and diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI).
“Can we rename DEI to DIE because that’s what seems to be happening to people in the valley of those who place awakened virtue signaling far above competence?!?,” Donald Trump Jr wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday .
Trump’s confidante and X centibillionaire owner Elon Musk, never one to escape from a conspiracy theoryhe was also using his platform to promote disinformation about what was to blame for the fires.
“DEI means people DIE,” Musk wrote in one post, while several other posts criticized LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley, a 22-year veteran of the department who was praised to save nine houses from total destruction during the Woolsey Fire in 2018 with his wife.
Crowley is the first woman and the first member of the LGBTQ community to hold the position of fire chief in LA.
Musk shared a post with Chaya Raichik, the woman behind the Hate-filled, anti-LGBTQ account LibsOfTikTok: “Meet Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. She prides herself on being the first female and LGBTQ fire chief in the LA Fire Department. Promoting a culture of GOD is her priority. Does this make you feel safer?” The post has been viewed more than five million times.
