The European team for its defense of the Ryder Cup in Bethpage is confirmed after Captain Luke Donald announced his joker options.
Europe will retain 11 of the twelve players who succeeded in Rome in 2023 after the announcement of the six Donald Monday teams.
Donald has largely remained in the Ryder Cup ranking, choosing the following five players who ended out of the six automatic standings points.
His departure from the classification affected the selection of a major winner twice.
Rory mcilroyRobert Macintyre, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Rasmus Hojgaard had already automatically described after the very impressive stations of 2025.
Shane Lowry, SEPP Stark, Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland and Matt Fitzpatrick join all as five players following the ranking, with the Jon Rahm Rahm rounded team.
Rahm was 24 in the ranking, but Donald opted for the Spanish experience, which helped to deliver the glory in 2023 and enjoyed a good campaign of 2025.
In fact, Rahm ended between the first 15 in three of the four seniors this season and won the individual title of LIV Golf for a second year following last month.
“It’s a different feeling,” Rahm told Sky Sports as he reacted to his selection.
“I didn’t think it would be as emotional as it is now.
The only change in Europe from 2023 refers to the Hojgaard brothers.
The inclusion of Rasmus Hojgaard as an automatic qualifier sees him occupying the place of brother Nicolai, who was part of the team two years ago, but missed to be a comfortable choice this time.
Matt Wallace, who was torn when asked about his Ryder Cup hopes after European teachers last weekend, could count on the misery of losing. Wallace was 12th in the ranking. Harry Hall, Marco Penge and Thomas Detry were among others that can be considered unfortunate.
“I feel amazingly proud of these boys,” Donald said about his team. “A lot of continuity in Rome, it is a bit unusual, but it shows how good they are.
“But although there is continuity, this is a different animal to play in America. We know how difficult it is. I have looked at many different angles to try to prepare for the challenge there.
“It’s about implementing new techniques. I am very aware that we have lost three of the last four Ryder Cups on important margins. I have tried everything I can to give my team the best opportunity.
“The last two weeks are the hardest part of a captain’s job. There are people who are using the position and the people who feel they could have done enough, but then they receive a call to say they are not on the team and this is difficult.
“I feel like we have an amazing and strong team and so it happens that there is so much continuity in Rome. It’s a different challenge, winning the Ryder Cup is not easy.”
Automatic qualifiers: Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, Bryson Dechambeau
The captain of the options: Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns
Automatic qualifiers: Rory McILroy, Robert Macintyre, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Rasmus Hojgaard
The captain of the options: Shane Lowry, SEPP Stark, Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland and Matt Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm
Donald will direct Europe for the second successive Ryder Cup. He will expect to achieve a European victory over the US floor for the first time from the Miracle in Medinah in 2012. In addition, he could become the first European captain to claim later victories since Tony Jacklin oversaw two wins and a tie from 1985 to 1989.
It will go against Keegan Bradley, who chose not to take on the role of playing the captain despite being on the list of points in the United States.
The Ryder 2025 Cup will take place on the black tour of the Bethpage State Park on Long Island, New York.
It will begin on September 26 and will conclude on September 28.
