MLB also released a statement confirming the investigation but without revealing more.
“Cleveland Guardians’ Piser Luis Ortiz has been placed on a nondisciplinary paid leave through the end of the All-Star break due to an MLB investigation,” read the statement. “We will not comment further until the investigation is complete.”
What penalties could Ortiz face?
If MLB decides that Ortiz has treated the result of his games – even just a pitch or two at a time – he could face significant after effects and a lifetime ban by Major League Baseball.
