Liverpool and Preston paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in an emotional ceremony before their preseason friend.
Jota and Andre, also a professional footballer, died in a car accident on July 3 in Zamora, Spain.
The First Equipment of the Reds, held in Preston, was filled with moving moments to pay tribute to the brothers. The stadium was moved by sincere performances by Elvis Presley’s Can Help Help Falling in Love and the iconic you will never walk alone, the Liverpool anthem.
When the latter echoed around the ground, Preston’s captain, Ben Whiteman, visibly surpassed with emotion, placed a crown in front of the section that housed Liverpool’s supporters.
The fans on the outside were respected with flags, handkerchiefs and banners reminiscent of the old wolves and Porto.
They sang Jota’s singing when the players left the tunnel. The silence of a minute followed.
In the 20th minute, a glance at the Jota T -shirt number, people burst into the song again in their memory.

The program of the day featured a black and white image of Jota, raising the Premier League trophy, surrounded by messages that honored him and his brother.
In an emotional gesture, Liverpool announced on Friday at 20:20 BST, that Jota’s number 20 shirt would definitely retire throughout the club.
Speaking to Liverpool TV for the first time since the tragedy, the titular coach, Arne Slot, offered his reflections on how the club faces: “If we want to laugh, we laugh; if we want to cry, we will cry.
“If they want to train, they can train, if they do not want to train, they cannot train. But be yourself, do not think that you have to be different from what they tell you.
“We will always take him with us to our heart, in our thoughts, wherever we go.”
Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances during his time in Liverpool, playing a key role in the FA CUP and the Club League Cup in 2022 and his triumph of the most recent Premier League.
He last represented Portugal in the final of the League of Nations against Spain on June 8, where he helped another trophy. In total, he scored 14 goals in 49 caps for his country.
