Portugal in mourning after at least 17 people were killed and 20 more were injured when the famous Lisbon railway grass left on Wednesday night.
Among the killed was a transport worker, while reportedly a three -year -old German boy escaped with little injuries.
They are damaged by 11 foreign nationals from Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, South Korea, Morocco and Cape Verde, AFP reports, citing emergency services.
Police have not yet confirmed the identity of those who died, but here’s what we know about the victims.
The Portuguese Transport Union of Citra said that Andre Horhe Gonzalve Markis, who worked as a brake security guard, was killed.
In a statement on Facebook, the union wrote: “We send our condolences to the families and friends of the accident and wish them a quick recovery, as well as the best recovery for the rest obtained as a result of the accident.”
Some foreign nationals were also among the killed, stated in emergency services on Wednesday night, but where they were unclear.
Local media reports that German family of three were on board Funicular when they crashed.
The father died at the scene, the Portuguese news of Outlet Persoador reports, while the mother was in a critical condition at the hospital, and a three -year -old boy was injured.
Glória Funicular can move about 40 passengers and very popular with tourists – but it is also very important for the residents of the city to help them travel up and down the hilly Lisbon Street.
We do not know how many people were aboard, or the identity of anyone who died. The death toll and the number of victims may change in the coming hours.
We also do not know whether the UK citizens are involved – the UK foreign service said it was aware of the incident and is ready to provide consular assistance to any victims of British citizens.
