“They have won this euros after winning the last euros and this is the most phenomenal achievement. It has never been done before by a team in this country, so we are so proud of them, that amazing group of women and so proud of the team of men and women behind them.
“These are years and years of planning, preparation and investment. It is the team behind the team, developing the players, putting the right tracks in their place, identifying young players, in developing coaches. It is an entire system behind these amazing players that brings them to this cultivation point when they make an important end.”
It was the third time in The Trot that Wiegman had brought a team to the success of euros after having also achieved the feat with his natal home countries in 2017.
Day added: “Sarina Wiegman had the most amazing impact on the team and football in this country. The team has had the most amazing impact. We saw from the last euros that participation in women and girls doubled to almost 2.5 million due to these euros.
“What this says to the girls is that you can play football, there is a place for you in football and we will see it again from these euros and maybe with more power.
