Lena Dongham on Fatphobia, dating tips and her new London Rum

Lena Danham is almost synonymous with New York. The American actress, writer and director rose to glory with his award-winning semi-auto -obiographical series, who followed four 20-year-old women when they moved through love, life and friendship in a big apple.

But its latest project – Netflix Rom -com, which is based on her life over the past few years – is installed on the other side of the Atlantic.

Too much follows from Jessica (Megan Stalter), who moves from New York to London after breaking with his boyfriend, and falls in love with punk Felix (Will Sharp).

Just as Danham, when she moved to London in 2021, Jessica quickly learns about important things about the UK: everyone loves the subington, the jaffa cake discussion is very controversial (it is definitely a biscuit), and “housing” is not a common garden.

Danham tells the BBC that while too much “superficial resemblance” with her life and “about 5% autobiographical”, she did not see that she never plays the protagonist of the show in the girls.

“I didn’t consider Jessica to me – she is inspired by my life, but her own character was written with Megan in mind,” she says.

Megan Stalter says the girls “were all about sex, and too much – it’s falling in love”, which looks like Danham sees the show.

There was another reason when she decided to move away from the spotlight. In the 20th years, when the girls were shooting, Danham’s body was greatly understood, and last year she said The New Yorker that “there was no fact that my body was cut down again.”

She explains that shaving the body was a part of the reason when she went beyond the camera. “Only the perception was stunning,” she says.

Dongham has spent the last few years, focusing on writing projects that do not focus her as an actor.

She believes that the society has achieved some success in being a more positive body, but says that the culture in which we live is still “so deeply phonophobic, myzogistic, racist and engenes, and it informs our dynamics with our body.”

The 39-year-old guy spoke on the problems she faced with her health, especially with endometriosis, which made her have a hysterectomy at the age of 31.

Asked how her relationship has changed with her body since then, she says she has developed a new love for what he looks like.

“I managed to have relationships with my body, which existed on cultural pressure, and I was lucky for it.”

And also reflecting on how her image has changed, Danham also says she has learned a lot from the age of 20.

Having passed the focus for more than ten years, the actress had a share of disputes.

In 2017, she defended the girls of the writer Murray Miller when he was accused of sexual attack. Later Dongham apologized, Saying that “absolutely the wrong time” share its prospect. Miller brutally denied claims and was not accused.

She also apologized for the “unpleasant joke” she did In the podcast, who said she wanted her to endure, discussing the US abortion.

“I thought it was important then just to keep going and be tough, no matter what happened,” she thinks.

“I was so focused on work and gave no noise, but I would like me to allow myself to take more time and space. We all have to recognize our own complexity and sensitivity, but it is difficult to wrap your head when you are in the 20s.”

The new 10-epizodo series of Danham “Stars” episode “Senior” Megan Stalter and Will Sharp, most famous in playing ethane Spilla in white lotus and films such as true pain.

The 38 -year -old Sharp says that it is related to the problems that characterized it, because “everyone carries luggage from the previous relationship” and feels vulnerable when they enter the new one.

Stalter is also associated with her character. The 34-year-old girl says she often “felt too much” in the 20s, but over time she became proud of who she was.

Written with her husband Danham, musician Luis Felber, focuses too much on the evolution of one romantic relationship.

This refreshes its reality – from serious conversations between Jessica and Felix to the fact that the salary of Media Jessica reaches for housing on East London, not in Bridget Jones -Eske on the market.

I ask Danham if she has any dating advice for women in the 20th, given that she went through the slides trying to find a life partner.

She says that the acquaintance concept has changed over the years, and still in the late Noughties, “was considered the last means or a strange thing to meet anyone on the Internet.”

Looking back, Danham wants her to allow herself to understand what she really wanted, not just see the cultural expectations that were on her.

“If I made myself an understanding of my own desire, my 20s would look like another romantic.”
