There is a bit of a wait until the return of Justin Hartley‘s popular CBS show Tracker but the first photos from the mid-season premiere tease a familiar face – and a terrifying new one.

Tracker returns to CBS on Sunday, February 16, with a chapter centered around The Colter (Hartley) case regarding the disappearance of Gina Picket. After receiving a tip from a retired police officer, Keaton (guest star Brent Sexton), the duo work together to find a serial killer called The Teacher. Stills from the next episode also reveal that Ryan Dorsey’Frank Whales character is back having been introduced earlier this season.

Meanwhile, in another moment of the episode, Nicholas Lea is credited as a character named Noah Darview who wears a creepy mask. The mid-season premiere is expected to pick up right after Colter received a break in his white whale case.

“We got into something. Wasn’t it our fault – we had no choice,” Frank’s former associate told Colter about working for someone called Teacher. “He (he) knew things about us. Bad stuff. Holding it over our heads. . Even the others. He kept a long line of pretty boys to do his bidding.”

Hartley, 47, had previously teased Gina’s case it would take most of the second term.

“When (Gina disappears), Colter makes a promise to (his sister) Camille – and I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he never promises (his clients) anymore. He says, ‘I’ll bring her home … I’ll bring him home,’” she said Television line in October 2024. “He says, ‘I’m going to do my best … to try.’ Here’s why.”

Hartley was teasing how to dig into Colter past with Camille (Floriana Lima) unlocks more details, adding, “(This story) is built in a way that when you look at it, you go, ‘Oh man, that was a pivotal moment in Colter’s life and it changed the way he approaches his work and his relationship with other people.”

Despite the 11 week wait for more answers, Tracker has a successful sophomore comeback on CBS. The season 2 premiere in October 2024 brought in a total of 8.3 million viewers, which was almost 10 percent higher in viewership since the season 1 finale. The season 2 premiere also marked the show’s highest audience since The series will end in February 2024 after the Super Bowl.

Tracker has since been coined the most-watched premiere since the final episode of NCIS with Mark Harmon in September 2021. Its average viewers are 18.2 million per episode according to their Paramount+ and broadcast measurements. Variety’s annual list of the 100 most-watched prime-time TV shows of the year revealed that Tracker 15 spots were won in chapters.

Tracker returns to CBS Sunday, February 16, at 8 pm ET. New episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.
