Actor Jusi Smollett agreed to pay $ 50,000 (£ 37,000) to Chicago charity, settling a lawsuit that the city filed against him on charges of lies about the crime.
Chicago police wanted Smolett to pay $ 130,000 to cover the investigation, but on Thursday, the Chicago’s Law Department confirmed that the donation would be made instead.
This money will go into the construction of bright futures art centers, an organization that supports low -income Chicago youth.
In 2019, Smolets said he had been a victim of racist and homophobic attack. But in the event that saw a lot of turns, he was accused of lies of the police. Later, the allegations were dropped, and Smolleta always claimed it was not a hoax.
A legal department spokesman said: “The city believes that this settlement provides a fair, constructive and convincing resolution, allowing all parties to close this six-year chapter and move forward.”
Smolletta, who black and gay claimed that two people hit him, shouted racially, dropped his “chemical” and put a loop on his neck as he walked down the street near his apartment in Chicago.
At the time, the actor was calculated, and many celebrities made public statements condemning violence and supported a smolet.
But a few weeks later, he was accused of lifting it all and accused of police lie.
He was charged with sending a racist letter to himself and paid two brothers $ 3,500 to attack.
Smolets was found guilty in 2021, but last year the conviction was abolished.
