Judge orders Ice to improve the conditions at the NYC immigration facility

But Judge Kaplan was not convinced that the situation would not deteriorate again.

“My conclusion here is that there is a very serious threat of continuing irreparable injury, given the conditions that I was told,” the judge said at the hearing on Tuesday. “I do not have the way to ensure that any progress, which, in fact, has been made, will not be postponed very quickly.”

The lawsuit was initiated by the immigrant’s rights to make the road to New York, as well as the American Civil Liberties and the Union of Civil Liberties in New York.

“Today’s order sends a clear message: Ice cannot contain people in abusive conditions and deny them their constitutional rights to the proper process and the legal representation,” said Senior Prosecutor Aklo Eunnis Cho.

“We will continue to fight to ensure that people’s rights are supported by 26 federal squares and abroad,” the statement reads.
