Josh Hall gave Christina the ‘Silent Treatment’ If She Laughed at Tarek


Christina Haack remembers the alleged treatment he received from a strange man Josh Hall on the set of The Turn off before he parted ways with the show.

“Josh was very difficult to film with,” Haack, 41, shared exclusively with him Us Weekly in the latest cover story with her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa. “He wasn’t getting it. He would always get upset with me, like, ‘Oh my gosh, you did this,’ or ‘You do that.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m doing a TV show.'”

After Haack and Hall file for divorce in July 2024, his role with The Turn off has changed. Us it was confirmed at the time that since the series was already “in production,” Haack, Tarek and Heather would be “moving forward with the show without” Josh.

“Ultimately, it was better for him to leave after episode 1 because the show would have sucked,” Haack told Us.

When asked if Hall had voiced any concerns about her work with her ex Tarek, Haack replied, “If I laughed at Tarek, I’d get the silent treatment for a week.” Haack claimed his response stemmed from “uncertainty.”

Haack explained that filming The Turn off “probably just sped (their split) up.” Haack noted that she and Tarek have “filmed together forever,” referring Flip or flopwhich premiered in 2013. (Haack and Tarek, who share two children, finalize their divorce in 2018 but continued to work together until the show’s final season in 2022.)

“Someone more confident would be able to say, ‘This is my wife, but yes, she is doing this for television. She was filming with Tarek when I met her,’” says Haack Us. “There was a logic there that didn’t make sense. You know what you signed up for. I am your wife, and I choose you, but you choose to make my life harder because of insecurity.”

Despite her split from Hall, Haack shared that she wasn’t thinking of calling it quits The Turn off.

“This is not Josh’s show,” he said. “No one is going to miss that he is not in it. Josh is not a TV host, he is not a house flipper, he is not a designer. He was only my husband in it. With Tarek, we built everything together, and I still have respect for him. I have no respect for Josh.”

While the breakup between Haack and Hall will play out on camera, Haack said Us she’s not “nervous” to watch any of it. “There are definitely some very emotional scenes,” he said. “It’s different than anything I’ve ever shot for TV — it’s very real and raw.”

Now, as she navigates her life after her split from Hall, Haack said she “has been very busy, which is probably a blessing.” He added, “It’s really been a big growth period.”

Tarek and Heather, for their part, always tried to be “very friendly” with Hall. “He was the stepfather of our children, so we wanted a positive environment,” explained Heather, who welcomed her son Tristan with Tarek in January 2023.

However, since Hall left the show, Heather called the dynamic “better.” He added, “Not to be mean, but he definitely didn’t have the best personality. So it’s like a breath of fresh air. And (Christina is) in a very good place.”

The Turn off premieres Wednesday, January 29, at 8 pm on HGTV.
