The Jordan government banned the Muslim fraternity a week after the Islamist group members were arrested on suspicion of planning missiles and drones.
Interior Minister Mazen Al-Farai said at a press conference that all fraternity offices would be closed and his assets were confiscated and that any event would be considered illegal.
There was no immediate response from the fraternity that denied any links to the alleged sections of the attack.
It is unclear how the ban will affect the group’s political hand, the Islamic Front, which is the largest opposition group in parliament. But after the announcement, the police were searched.
The Secretary -General of IAF, Walesa Sakka, insisted that it was an independent political party, explaining that “it has no relationship with any other organizational body.”
“We always state that we strive to order, the law and the provisions of the Constitution,” he said.
In 2020, the Supreme Court of Jordan ruled that the brotherhood “dissolved” because it did not resolve its legal status.
However, the group continued its political and other activities, and IAF participated in last year’s parliamentary elections, winning 31 out of 138 places.
Last week, the Jordan General Intelligence Division said he arrested 16 people who were suspected of planning the attacks aimed at “focus on national security, seeding chaos and sabotage”.
They participated in the storage of explosives and automatic weapons, missile production, concealment of one missile, ready for launch, a project for the production of drones and learning people both in Jordan and abroad, the statement said.
At the press conference on Wednesday, Farai said the fraternity members “work in the shadows and participate in events that can undermine stability and security.”
Authorities found “explosives and weapons transported between Jordani cities and were stored in residential areas,” as well as hidden missile production facilities, as well as training and kits, they said, he said.
He also said that the fraternity members tried to remove and destroy the documents from the Kokvators’ headquarters, “trying to hide their activities and suspicious accessories.”
The group denied participation in or knowledge allegedly an attack and emphasized that “committed to his peaceful approach”.
Brotherhood was founded in Egypt almost 100 years ago and has local offices around the world. One of its goals is the creation of a state managing Islamic law or Sharia.
It is banned in Egypt and several Arab countries whose governments perceive it as a threat.
