John Stamos reflects on the people who mean the most to him as one year ends and another begins.
The Full House star, 61, shared an emotional message through his Instagram on Wednesday, January 1 as he considers “love, loss, and growth.”
“Happy New Year!” he began in the long ringing of the post. “As the calendar turns, I find myself reflecting on a year full of love, loss and growth. This past year has been one of the most transformative of my life. I’ve experienced moments of overwhelming gratitude, profound sadness, and the kind of clarity that only comes when you let life happen as it’s meant to.”
A photo of Stamos with his wife accompanied the caption Caitlin McHugh38, who married in 2018and their son, Billy, 6.
Both Caitlins and Billy were the first to be name checked in the reflective Instagram post.
“To Caitlin and Billy – you are my heart. Every morning we’ve spent cuddling and laughing together is a memory I’ll hold close forever,” Stamos wrote. “You remind me daily that the simplest moments are often the most meaningful.”
Stamos referred to his Full House costar, Dave Coulier, a his ongoing battle with cancertagging him in the caption and in the photo itself.
“@dcoulier you got this!” Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse alongside Uncle Joey Coulier in the popular 90s sitcom, wrote.
Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that attacks the body’s lymphatic system and affects “white blood cells called lymphocytes (which) grow abnormally and can form growths (tumors ) throughout the body,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
The actor also talked about losing a childhood friend Mike Owenwho had been best friends with Stamos since they were 11 years old. Owen died in November of a heart attack.
“To Mike, my oldest and dearest friend, whom we lost this year – you will forever be my silent Obi-Wan, guiding me with your quiet strength. Losing you has left a hole in my life, but I carry your light forward in everything I do,” Stamos wrote.
Stamos went on to commemorate his sobriety achievements in 2024 and expressed that he is looking forward to the future.
“This year, I celebrated my sobriety again, and it’s something I’m extremely proud of. This year was a new beginning for me, and I am so grateful for the second chances that life offers when you choose to show up for it,” she wrote. “I’m excited about what lies ahead—new projects, new stories to tell, and new ways to create and connect. But for now, I’m holding on to the peace, the laughter, and the love of these moments with my family.”
He concluded: “To everyone reading this: May the new year bring you kindness, courage, and peace knowing that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
