John Oliver shares his response to Jay lenoCriticism of late night TV shows.
The first Show tonight Host, 75, recently said he felt the Current crop of late night talk shows alienates viewers with party politics apparently.
In an interview with Hollywood reporter Announced on Tuesday, August 5, Oliver clapped back, “I’m going to take a hard pass when taking comed advice from Jay Leno.”
The Last week tonight The host further expanded that “comedy can be for everyone” after Leno stated that late night guests should aim to attract the widest possible audience.
“It’s indigenous subjective,” explained Oliver, 48. “So, yes, when you stand up, some people try to play for a wider audience, which is perfectly legal. Others decide not, which is just as legal. I guess I don’t think it’s a question of what you should do because I don’t think comedy is prescriptive in that way.
He added, “I think our show is obviously come from a point of view, but most of those long stories do not politically party. They are about systemic issues. Our last few shows related to gang databases, Slope, Slope, Youth Justice, Med Spa, Air Traffic Management. on what is the answer to him.
Talk in interview With Ronald Reagan’s Institute and Institute in late July, Leno looked back at his occupancy as a host The Tonight Show – He faced between 1992 and 2009 and again from 2010 and 2014 – and said he sought to maintain political neutrality on his show.
“It was fun for me when I got hate letters: ‘You and your Republican friends’ (or) ‘Well, hope you and your Democratic friends are happy’ … over the same joke,” said Leno. “I’m going, ‘Well, that’s good.’ That’s how you get a whole audience.
Comparatively, the former TV Charer Late at night said, “You now have to be satisfied with half of the audience because you have to give your views.”
“I don’t think anyone wants to hear a lecture,” Leno continued. “I love political humor, don’t get me wrong, but what happens is that people are winding down too much to one side or the other.”
“Why shoot for half an audience? Why not try to get it all? I like bringing people to the big picture. I don’t understand why you would alienate one particular group,” he said. “Or don’t do that at all. I’m not saying you have to throw your support or anyway, but just do what’s funny.”
