JK Rowling presses in on HBO New Harry Potter adjustment

On Saturday, Rowling through X explained that she is not a writer on the show, telling one fan that she had “worked closely with the extremely talented writers” on the series.

Rowling appears to have referred to the petition and those who signed it in a post shared by X, though he did not name Essiedu.

“Some argue that the signatories of these types of letters are motivated by fear: fear of their careers, of course, but also the fear of their fellow religionists, which includes angry, narcissist men who are threatening and sometimes enacting violence on people who do not believe; colleagues who stand back are never ready to report wrong,” Rowling wrote at the time.

After fans began to guess that Rowling would eventually fire Essiedu, he took to social media to clear what he can, and cannot, do in terms of the show.

“I don’t have the power to dismiss an actor from the series and I wouldn’t practice it if I were. I don’t believe in removing people’s jobs or livelihoods because they hold legally protected beliefs that are different from mine,” he wrote.
