The owner of Indianapolis Colts Jim Irsay Died at the age of 65.
The NFL team broke the news through his Social media accounts Late Wednesday, May 21, sharing that Irsay died “peacefully in his sleep this afternoon.”
“We are hooked on announcing that our beloved owner and CEO, Jim Irsay, died peacefully in his sleep this afternoon,” said the statement. “Jim’s dedication and passion for the Colts Indianapolis, in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love of his family, was unrivaled.
The statement continued: “Some of Jim’s fondest memories came from his youth training camps in Baltimore and increased relationships with players, coaches, and staff he considered an extended family. He worked in every department before he was named the youngest general manager in team history in 1984 when the Colts arrived in the city -titles. Owned at the same time, which brought it in the bowl, which came in line with it in the bowl, after its series.
“Jim’s love and appreciation for the NFL, in addition to his history, tradition, and principles, influenced him to become a steward of the game throughout his 50 years and more in the league. Jim’s generosity can be felt all over Indianapolis, Indiana province and the country. Millions of people all over the world with tremendous joy to him. Simply put, he wanted to make the world a better place and that philosophy never wiped up. ”
“His family, the Colts Foundation, and supporters everywhere, will be sadly missed by Jim, but we continue to be inspired by his caring and unique spirit,” the statement concluded.
Irsay was the lead owner and chairman of the Colts from 1997 until his death after the team’s inherited from his father, Robert Irsaywho died in 1997.
Under his watch, the Colts went on to two Super Bowl and won Super Bowl XLI in 2007.
Colts icon Peyton Manning was among the first people to mourn the death of Irsay. “I’m heartbreaking to hear of Jim Irsay’s passing. He was an incredibly generous and passionate owner and I will always owe him for putting my start in the NFL,” the quarter -shared retired quarter through Instagram late Wednesday. “His love of the Colts and the Indy City was unrivaled. His impact on the players who played him will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers with his family and everyone in the Colts community. He will be missed. Jim, rest in peace my friend, #18.”
Irsay has been survived by his ex-wife, Gohis three daughters, Carley. Chasey and Calfand his 10 grandchildren.
