The English lioness and FC Gotham defender Jess Carter said the social media companies could make more comments on hatred on the Internet after she faced racial abuse during the Euro 2025 tournament.
Carter, defender of the American football team Gotham FC, is part of the female team of England, nicknamed “Ilvitsa”, which has just provided a historical victory in the Euro -2025 Championship after winning Spain in Penisat in Switzerland in July.
Carter was supposed to take retreat from social media Faced with intense racial abuse during the tournament and in an interview with Tania Bryer with CNBC, she shared how she deals with online.
“I am not the one who usually shoots myself from social media because I used to critics and used to get some abuses we get as athletes and people in the public eye, as it happens,” said Carter Bryer.
“So this time I think I coped with it to just completely remove myself from social media, so that I could not see anything that was said, and I could just focus on what was said in my camp,” she added.
England women’s team came out in support of Carter After the abuse, he decided not to take the knee-anti-crop gesture before the Euro 2025 matches, saying that “it is clear that we and football need to find another way to solve racism.”
Carter said the abuse of the Internet could not be noticed, where if it happened on the street, it would be considered as a crime with hatred.
“I think that companies in social media have to do better to protect people in public eyes. I think the amount of abuse we receive is not only me, but that everyone who gets in society is extremely, and it is not normal,” she said.
“Platforms in social media can better recognize those who share abuse, and pursue them the way they should be when it was on the street.”
She praised the technical giant Meta To monitor her social media and blocking notes before, but said he needed to solve more effectively. “More you need to do at the beginning to prevent it.”
Carter advised those who deal with social media abuse to rely on their relatives and friends and speak.
“Part of me wished me to talk about it before. It started right from the beginning of the France’s game, because after I talked about it, I may not understand what I needed support. I thought,” I just handle it myself. It will be fine. “
“Then, actually, after he spoke about it, receiving support for my team and my family, and friends really helped me to survive this,” said Carter Bryer. “I didn’t realize what I needed support at the time and talking about it helped to endure me and not make me feel so isolated.”
Carter said the support and positiveness of the fans contributed to pass it through the rest of the tournament.
As for inclusion in sports, Carter noted that she believed in equal access to opportunities and did not know much about the growth of women’s football.
“In fact, I didn’t know anything about women’s football. I didn’t know what I could be a professional footballer until I joined Birmingham at 16, and therefore think about making it more accessible to everyone, no matter where you are from,” she added.
