Beijing – Nvidia Jensen CEO Juan smiled and complimented when he made his third trip to China for about six months.
As the leader and co -founder of the world’s first, recent 4 trillion market capitalization company, Juan had special reasons to be happy when he met with the press on Wednesday: Nvidia expected she would be able to restore her less advanced H20 artificial intelligence in China after a three -month pause.
“Many of my competitors are my friends,” he said.
Juan said his understanding is that Nvidia’s permission to China was part of the US exchange for Beijing to release the critically necessary rare land. CNBC turned to the White House for comments.
Dressing his iconic black leather jacket, Juan entered the sunny yard of the Mandarin East Hotel hotel about 15 minutes earlier than planned, and took some questions in almost 90-degree weather weather.
“Only in China can we do it in the sun!” he said.
He then realized that the press conference should be held indoors with air conditioning.
“What are we doing here? Why didn’t someone say that?” he said.
He was thrown by local journalists asking for signatures of books and T -shirts. “Who needs an autograph? I will do it by listening.”
Here are the highlights he said in 90 minutes:
Juan said he had a “wonderful meeting” with the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister, and said that the discussions did not include China’s restrictions on battery technology and rare land.
Previously a week he met with Xiaomi Founder and CEO Lei Jun, whom he marked with a “brilliant business man”. He said two discussed artificial intelligence for large language models, autonomous riding and robotics.
Xiaomi uses Nvidia car chips in its electric cars.
Juan said he told President Donald Trump about his planned journey to China during Meeting with the White House leader last week To celebrate Nvidia market capitalization by 4 trillion.
“(Trump) said,” Great trip, “Juan said.
Nvidia on Tuesday said this Expected that soon will take place in China H20 to China After assuring the US government. The company was forced to stop such sales in April from new requirements in the US.
“In terms of the ban on H20 and lifting the ban, it completely controlled the US government and the Government of China. The discussion has nothing to do with me,” Juan said, rejected the idea that he played a role in Trump’s mind change.
“This is my task to inform the president that I know very well, it is a technological industry, artificial intelligence, the development of II around the world,” he said.
Juan stressed that Nvidia is in line with the final decision of the policy, and the fact that tariffs is just that the company should “adapt to”.
Restrictions on a chip in the US Almost halved Nvidia market share in China, Juan said in May. Due to US export control in China, the company said it missed $ 2.5 billion in April and Probably will need another 8 billion dollars In the July quarter, during this period, he tied his sales at $ 45 billion.
US Effectively forbidden Nvidia from selling its most advanced chips in China back in 2022.
“I hope to get more advanced chips to China than the H20,” Juan said in response to the CNBC question, “and the reason that technology is always moving on. It’s not like a tree.”
He emphasized that, in years, the best and best technologies will be available, adding: “I think it is reasonable that everything allowed us to sell in China will continue to get better and over time.”
But Juan will not give a final answer about how many orders the NVIDIA received, or if the company restarts the local sales of its chips – which, he said, were not the best, but still could train AI models.
He said the US government still still handles NVIDIA’s licenses for selling china, and that the company will need to restart its supply chain – the process it showed may take nine months.
Juan also discussed the forecast for the competing Chinese technological giants Huawei, which has suffered from US sanctions preceding export control on Nvidia.
“Everyone who reduces Huawei and everyone who reduces China’s production opportunities is deeply naive,” Juan said, also pointing to how Huawei has “excellent chips” and his own connected cloud system.
“They can go to the market themselves.”
At the heart of the AI Huawei model capabilities is a whole technological system that does not rest on either Nvidia chips and tools. Instead acts as an alternative to Cuda Nvidia. It also built the AI-specific cloud computing system called CloudMatrix, which was launched last year.
Asked about the signs that Huawei Ai Chip Systems are still complex for many developers to switch, Juan said, “This is just a matter of time.”
He said: “It is important to realize that I have been doing this for 30 years, they do it a few, and therefore what they are on the dance floor tells you how formidable they are.”
Juan rained the praise of the Chinese model AI, as in it During the speech On Wednesday morning at the opening ceremony of a loud supply chain in Beijing.
“Chinese models, Deepseek, Qwen, Kimi, Great,” he said, citing a breakthrough from Chinese launch, aliba models and more one from the starting moonshine supported by Alibaba.
“I think over time will be less important, which of the models is the most reasonable,” he said. “It will be one of the models the most useful.”
China, developed by Deepseek, shocked global investors in January with the release of AI model, which undermines Openai to develop and operate. It is unclear how Deepseek managed to develop a model under wide US chips in China, but parent, high-flight startup, Reportedly reported by Nvidia chips.
One aspects that Juan said he particularly appreciated the Chinese models of AI was that they were open source, making them available for people to download for free and use on their own computers.
He said many companies in many countries downloaded Deepseek R1 – 99%of people – use it local for healthcare, robotics, visualization and other applications.
As Juan was going to finish the press conference, the reporter asked if he would return to China this year.
“I hope you have to invite me.”
