The exes formally end their marriage on Monday, January 6, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly. In doing so, both parties agreed to share all assets and liabilities to avoid further litigation and expense.
Lopez, 55, keeps all of his personal property and earnings from their separation date – April 26, 2024 – as well as half of their bank accounts. Affleck, 52, gets the same. As per the settlement agreement, they will also share their $60 million mansion in Beverly Hills that is now on the market, but the specific terms of the agreement are sealed.
In the divorce, Lopez retains her clothing, jewelry and “various personal effects in her possession, custody or control,” and all assets she owns “individually or by entities that she (Lopez) is their sole owner, member or shareholder.”
The word “Bennifer” might conjure up flashbacks to frosted lip gloss and butterfly clips, but everything comes back in style eventually. Meanwhile, Affleck retains his interest in the production company Artists Equity he founded with him Matt Damon in November 2022. The agreement states that he will “pay, indemnify and hold (Lopez) harmless from any and all liabilities, claims, debts, actions, causes of action and/or tax liabilities associated with” r” company.
They settled their divorce through mediation in September. Lopez asked to drop “Affleck” from her last name and restore her legal name to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
The actress file for divorce of Affleck in August 2024. Instead of tapping a lawyer to submit paperwork on her behalf, Lopez presented herself on the two year anniversary the couple’s wedding in Georgia, although their separation date was months earlier.
At the time, a famous divorce attorney Chris Melcher suggested in an interview with Us that Lopez’s decision to file sans attorney was “intended to send a message that this will not be a fight.” Melcher said the duo “may have worked out most of (the) issues before going public with the filing.”
Lopez and Affleck share a long history. They met on the set of the box office bomb Lilies in 2001 and got engaged in November 2002. They were led to the altar in September 2003, but postponed their wedding days before the ceremony. Their split was confirmed in January 2004.
Sparks flew anew when the couple – famously known as “Bennifer” – reconnected in May 2021 and got engaged again in April 2022. They exchanged vows in Vegas in July and held a second ceremony in Georgia the following month .
Lopez was previously married Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and Mark Anthony — with whom he shares twins, Max and Emme — from 2004 to 2014. Affleck, for his part, was married to Jennifer Garner between 2005 and 2018, and they co-parent their three children, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
In May 2024, rumors of marital troubles began to swirl after Lopez and Affleck were not seen together in public for 47 days. Us that was soon confirmed Affleck had moved out from their home.
