A lawyer Alex Spiro share new insight into how his client is doing Jay-Z respond to the recent allegation of rape against him.
“He’s upset,” Spiro, 41, said of Jay-Z, 55, during a press roundtable at the Roc Nation offices in NYC on Monday, December 16, and Us Weekly attend “It’s sad that someone would be allowed to do this, it would make a mockery of the system like this. He is upset that this is a distraction and prevents real victims from coming forward.”
Spiro added that Jay-Z was also hurt by the accusations affect his familyincluding wife Beyoncé and their three children: Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Sir and Rumi, 8.
“He’s upset that his kids and his family have to deal with this,” Spiro continued. “He is upset and should be upset.”
During Monday’s roundtable, Spiro began by stating that Jay-Z “did not rape a child” before giving a presentation detailing alleged holes in the accuser’s story. (The woman came forward last week acknowledging the discrepancies in her account but she stood by her claims.)
News broke earlier this month that Sean “Diddy” Combs and it was Jay-Z named in a civil lawsuit where an unnamed woman, referred to as Jane Doe, accused the two rappers of raping her in 2000 at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party when she was 13. The lawsuit was initially filed in October with only Diddy, 55, named in the paperwork.
Attorney Tony Buzzbee – who represents more than 100 people who claim to be Diddy’s victims – re-filed the lawsuit on December 8 to include Jay-Z. Both musicians have denied the “heinous” claims, and the Roc Nation founder has already done so filed to dismiss the court case. Jay-Z has also criticized Buzbee several times for his involvement in the case, and Spiro offered more criticism on Monday.
“This lawyer took advantage of this. That’s what’s happening here. And you can see here now that this is starting to unravel and the truth is coming out, he’s starting to walk away from it,” Spiro claimed. “He says, ‘Oh, I’m sorry. This case was referred to our company by another company, so I didn’t really check it out.’ That’s basically what he said, right?”
He continued: “He brings a charge like this, attacking a man with the honesty of Mr. Carter, and all he has to say for himself now is, ‘Well, I didn’t really check this. I got a referral trying to make some money. So we went live with it.'”
Apparently Spiro was referring to a statement Buzbee gave him NBC News about the case after the accuser came forward for an interview.
“The Jane Doe case was referred to our firm by another, who vetted it before sending it to us,” Buzbee said on Friday, December 13. “Our client remains very adamant that what he she has declared it true, to the best of her. memory We will continue to vet his claims and collect supporting data to the extent that it exists. Because we have questioned her intensively, she has even agreed to submit to a polygraph. I’ve never had a client suggest that before.”
After the Spiro roundtable, Buzbee refuted what he called the “baseless claims” detailed in the presentation.
“This client was registered and referred to our firm by another law firm. That law firm drafted the initial complaint,” he said Us in a statement. “However, four individuals in our company have also interviewed the client and checked the details after receiving the referral. A background check was carried out on the client. We also hired an experienced researcher to vet some of the details she revealed to us. Those results were consistent with what the client had told us.”
Buzbee continued: “A letter was sent to Mr. Carter and offered to sit down to discuss the allegations in confidence. Rather than accept that offer, Mr. Spiro chose to file a public lawsuit accusing me personally of extortion. He made that claim knowing that we were not asking for money at all and out in public. That case is completely frivolous. Furthermore: At least three lawyers from our firm interviewed the client before filing the amended complaint naming Mr. Carter. The client has also signed two separate affidavits. Our client remains adamant about his claim. Mr. Spiro tries to be a bully. But we won’t be bullied. Our behavior has been and will continue to be beyond reproach. We will pick up some of the behavior of our opponents in due course, which is extremely worrying.”
