The latest update to jasprit bumrah has raised serious concerns about his availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He suffered from back spasm after being bowled out. Australia during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Jasprit Bumrah is currently under medical supervision after being advised bed rest at home. After a grueling Test tour of Australia, the Indian pace spearhead returned home last week, but his condition remains alarming due to swelling in his back.
Sources revealed that Bumrah is expected to report to the Board of Control for Cricket India‘s (BCCI) Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bangalore. But there is no clarity on when he would visit the Center of Excellence (CoE), putting his participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in jeopardy.

However, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to visit the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bangalore next week, but that totally depends on his progress. The sources further revealed that medical experts have asked Bumrah to rest to allow the swelling to subside so that the next steps for his recovery and treatment can be determined.
For now, the focus remains to ensure the Indian pacer’s back muscles fully recover and the swelling subsides before further decisions are made on his fitness and future plans. However, if there is only swelling, then Bumrah could be available for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
A source close to the development was quoted by the Times of India as saying: “Bumrah could go to the CoE next week, but there is no set date right now. He has been advised bed rest at home to help his muscles recover and reduce the swelling. Once this is done, the future course of action will be determined.”
With Bumrah currently struggling with back inflammation, Team India’s main pacer will not be rushed into action again. Given his history of back problems, the BCCI has been warned against bringing him back to the cricket field.
The exact cause of the swelling is said to be still unclear, but if it is more severe than expected, his recovery could take longer and he could miss the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan and Dubai.
The source also noted: “Bed rest doesn’t sound good. I hope it’s not a bulging disc or higher grade muscle swelling. The approach has to be similar with him: wrap it in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him.”
So now the Indian cricket team management and selectors are hoping that Jasprit Bumrah’s back problem is limited to inflammation as a disc related problem could further delay his return . With a busy schedule, which includes the Champions Trophy 2025, IPL 2025 and England’s tour of India, it is crucial to manage the Indian pacer’s recovery carefully and patiently.
India are yet to finalize their provisional squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as the national selectors are awaiting the medical team’s report before calling for Bumrah’s inclusion in the 15-member squad. They hope to have a clear picture in the coming days.
