Leicester City’s top scorer League League City, Jamie Vardy, said that his last club game will be “really sad” after announced that he will leave the foxes at the end of the season.
The city captain, Vardy, who signed Fleetwood Town and was integral to one of the biggest sporting shocks of all time when Leicester won the higher title 2015/16, described himself as “erased” while announced his departure in front of the Premier League Trophy.
The 38 -year -old striker has scored 198 goals in 498 appearances, including 143 in the Premier League, as well as helping Leicester to win the FA CUP 2020/21 and the championship in 2014 and 2024.
In the message to Leicester fans, Vardy said that the club “always would always have a massive place in my heart”, but calling the “correct” time.
“I have spent incredible 13 years in this club, with great success and some losses,” he reflected. “Most have been maximum. Finally it is time to call one day, I am devastated about it.”
Leicester is two games at home before Vardy’s departure, facing Southampton on May 3 and Ipswich Town on May 18 (both 15:00 BST).
“(My last game will be a really sad day,” he said Leicester website. “It’s something I thought and talk to my family. I think it’s time.
“Good things are over. It will be one of these emotional days. Who knows how they can go? If you ask someone, I’m not really an emotional boy.
“Nothing like this is never meant to me, but when you have been somewhere for so long and it’s time to say -you will never know what your personal reaction will be.”
After being released by Sheffield on Wednesday as a teenager, Vardy spent time with Stocksbridge Park steels before making his name in Halifax city.
After a prolific period in Fleetwood, then a non -side of the league, Vardy joined Leicester for a million £ 2012. “Being here so long, the fans took me as if I were one of his,” he said.
“You always want to pay this … it is the family. Fans, since I have been here, stuck with us through thick and thin.
“It comes to the game days, and the atmosphere is fantastic. And then you get those who travel to all the games away.
“It’s very much appreciated, it really is. Nothing in the world these days is cheap, so their money is spent to support the club they love and, fortunately, to be involved in this for all the 13 seasons, it is an incredible feeling.”
With Leicester’s own assessment, Vardy’s arrival was “as silly at best, weird at the worst”, but his 16 goals helped the club return to the Premier League the following season.
A total of 24 goals in that remarkable season 2015/16, when Leicester had been 5,000/1 to win the Premier League, was the first of the seven successive campaigns in which Vardy would win the double figures in the first flight.
