James Gunn wants you to relax about the Batman Part II delay

On Friday, WB revealed that it was shuffling around some of its movies, mostly The Batman follow up. The Matt Reeves sequel originally slated to arrive on October 2, 2026 has now arrived on October 1, 2027. And fans are taking it…not well.

Since the news of The Batman Part II of late, social media has been filled with jokes and concerns about what the hell is going on. Because it takes five years to make a movie, it’s the the entire TBECS enterprise washed up – people just want some answers. Hon The threadsJames Gunn explained that the film’s script had not been finished, and that director/co-writer Matt Reeves was “committed to making the best film I can”. He in addition argued it is “fairly common” for a franchise to have five or more years between payments, and he cited several as proof: Unbelievable (14 years), the first two Alien movies (7 years), Avatar (13 years old), and also his own Guardians of the Galaxy (6 years, though not by choice).

It didn’t take long for the commentators to pick up on it and argue that there was other franchises with less time between installments: your Marvel movies, your Star Wars (at least, original), and so on. However, Gunn’s overall point is basically, “yeah, there’s a delay, just relax.” Easier asked than done, especially given an additional context: before Reeves Batman it was originally meant to hit June 2021and has been postponed twice due to COVID. This news also comes shortly after Sony announced directors in order Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, what you do would have been out this year, and it’s coming in… TBD. What’s more, Andy Muschiettidirector of the other great Batman film, the previously announced Brave & the Boldrecently indicated that it has been put on the backburner for undisclosed reasons. For fans ready to swallow any information about these films, without knowing anything Spider-Verse yes Batflick – and not knowing by the time you know – it pisses them off.

Unfortunately for them, they just have to deal with it. The Batman Part IIIt’s not the only superhero movie to be delayed, and many blockbusters have used that long wait between sequels to their advantage. (Case in point: the Internet way enlightened for the trailer at the first Superman movie in over a decade.) Corny as it is to say “let Reeves cook”, that’s really all we can do. There will be more movies between now and October 2027. And yes need your correction of Robert Pattinson who is a weirdo, you have Mickey 17 hit in March.
