Bethell has not played many national games recently and has only participated in four games (three in the T20 explosion and one in the county championship) between the start of the Indian test series in June and its inclusion for the fifth test.
Bethell has faced criticism for this and addressed him as he spoke with Sky Sports ahead of the third hatred. He said he ignores the outside noise, but admitted that he should have played more cricket. Bethell said:
“There has been a little noise, but I don’t listen much. If I’m honest, I probably should have played a little more when I didn’t play the test games, but that’s what I’ll take and learn from that.
“ Although I did not play much in this series of tests, I was around the group for many things, and only to see a series of high octane tests like this was incredible.I had a chance in the last test and, unfortunately, I couldn’t go there and put on a performance, but I loved it (summer). Playing England is a dream that comes true and I hope it can do it for a long time.
“Now I am looking at what I have ahead and there is a lot of cricket, so this little lag where I did not play could be very nice for me,” said Bethhell
