Gennaro Gattuso has been described today as a “symbol of Italian football” after being named new Azzurri coach.
Gattuso succeeds Luciano Spalletti, who was effectively dismissed after the 3-0 defeat in Norway on June 6, but remained on Monday to supervise the victory 2-0 over Moldova.
The former International of Italy won 73 heads for his country and was recognized as a hard midfielder.

Gabriele Gravina, the President of the Italian Football Association (FIGC), said: “Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football, the shirt is like his second skin.
“His motivations, professionalism and experience will be essential to take on the upcoming challenges of the national team. He knows the importance of our goals and I thank him for his preparation and dedication to accepting this challenge. He shares the project of the Development of our Football, in which the Azzurri shirt is a central part.”
Figc went to Gattuso after failing to appoint Claudio Ranii, who chose to stay in a senior advisor to Rome.
The 47 -year -old young man had a wonderful playing career, but it was not easy to replicate this success as the main coach.
He started at Sion Sion Sion, but did not last long, starting a pattern that continued in Palermo, Ofi Crete and Pisa.
Gattuso returned to AC Milan, where he starred in as a player, to train children under 19, but was promoted to first team coach after the looting of Vincenzo Montella in November 2017.
Sixth and fifth place was sacked in May 2019 and six months later he was named Napoli Boss. It was in Naples that he claimed the only platform in his directive career, the Coppa Italy of 2020, but his 18 -month term ended in May 2021.
An abortion spell in Fiorentina preceded the drafts in Valencia and Marseille, bringing him to Hajduk Split, where he quit after a season.
His resume seems to be a risk on the part of FIGC only one year from the World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The rating has reached a mixed beginning and its two next games, against Estonia and Italy, are already forming to be key accessories of Group I.
