Issa Rae nearly asked Ryan Gosling ‘to leave’ Barbie Set

For Ry Talented in many different media – acting, writing, directing and production – she recently admitted that she was far from skilled in hitting the dance floor.

In the book, released on Tuesday, August 26, Rae, 40, remembers having to perform a solo dance routine, which she admits is not her expertise.

“I was incredibly nervous. I wanted to ask Greta (Gerwig) If she could tell Ryan Gosling about leaving so as not to break my integrity, but I had just arrived – I couldn’t make any calls, ”Rae wrote.

Rae was only given 24 hours to learn a dance number for the film. Before filming, the Uncertain The Creator was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, when she received a phone call from her agent.

After the initial shock dressed away, Rae’s friends, who was DC with her at the time, tried to quickly taught her the choreography.

“Choreography has ever been my biggest challenge, because it has not been coordinated, and has been honest in Nonstarter for some pretty exciting job opportunities,” Rae wrote. “I sent a text to my agent, ‘and it’s too late to quit?’ He answered quickly: ‘Yes.’ “

Rae wrote that she studied the choreography video while on her flight to England, where the film was filming. When the set arrived the following day for individual practice, the choreographers informed her that the procedure had been changed. She was taught a new order within an hour to perform with the rest of the cast.

In conversation among Costars, he practically realized that everyone else had been working on the choreography for two to three weeks and this only did it more nervously. After the first exercise, she admits that she was not “great”, Rae wrote that she “practiced all night in my hotel room and then had to set early to practice in my trailer until they call me to do my individual order for the camera.”

From the second take, Rae wrote, “I did it. Not in any way, but the choreographers made so much impression. ‘You practiced!’ They said. ‘I had no choice!’ I said. ”

Rae wrote, who played President Barbie in the 2023 film, despite having to dance, was generally an amazing experience.

“And while that particular scene was outside my comfort zone, the rest of the filming was such a satisfactory process to be a part of it and to see,” Rae wrote. “Even with IP (called intellectual property) and iconic with BarbianI watched Greta see her specific vision through while successfully taking the input of every actor and producer. “
