Israeli Defense Minister states that he has instructed his military to prepare a plan for moving all Palestinians to a gas camp in the south, Israeli media reports.
Israel Katz told reporters on Monday that he wanted to create a “humanitarian city” on the ruins of Rafa to initially place about 600,000 Palestinians – and eventually a whole 2.1 million population.
He said the purpose was to bring people inside after the security survey to make sure they were not Hamas operatives and that they would not allow them to leave.
When he added, he added, construction will begin during a 60-day ceasefire that Israel and Hamas are trying to agree.
One Israeli lawyer on human rights has condemned it as no less than a “operational crime plan against humanity.”
“It is about the transfer of the population to the southern edge of the gas strip in preparation for deportation outside the lane,” – Michael Saford told Guardian newspaper.
The UN has also previously warned that the deportation or violent transfer of the civilian population of the occupied territory is strictly prohibited in accordance with international humanitarian legislation and “tantamount to ethnic purification”.
There was no immediate comment from the Palestinian administration or Hamas.
Later on Monday, during a meeting at the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take over the post-war gas and constantly relocated his population elsewhere.
Netanyahu said: “I think President Trump has a brilliant vision. This is called a free choice. If people want to stay, they can stay, but if they want to leave, they should be able to leave …
“We work with the United States very carefully about the search for countries that will seek to realize what they always say – that they wanted to give the Palestinians a better future.”
Trump said: “We had excellent cooperation with … surrounding countries, great cooperation with each. So something good would happen.”
In March, the Arab states supported the Egyptian alternative of $ 53 billion (39 billion pounds) Trump’s plan to reconstruct the gas that will allow Palestinians living there.
They also emphasized their “categorical deviation of any form of movement of the Palestinian people”, describing such an idea as “gross violation of international law, crime against humanity and ethnic purification”.
The Palestinian authorities and Hamas also supported the Egyptian plan, but the United States and Israel said they could not turn to the realities.
The Palestinians are afraid of the repetition of the Nakba – the Arab word for the “disaster” – when hundreds of thousands escaped or expelled from their homes before and during the war, which followed the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
Many of these refugees were in Gaza, where they and their descendants make three quarters of the population. Another 900,000 registered refugees live on the occupied West Bank, and 3.4 million others live in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, the UN reports.
The Israeli military launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and 251 were taken hostage.
Since then, more than 57,500 people have been killed in Gaza, the Ministry of Health’s Health reports.
Most of the gas population has also been moved several times. It is estimated that more than 90% of the houses were damaged or destroyed; Health care systems, water, sanitation and hygiene have fallen apart; And there is a lack of food, fuel, medicine and shelter.
