Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going through one of the worst phases of their career. Both batsmen are battling it out for runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which has seen mounting criticism from all corners of the cricketing world.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has joined this list and criticized both the batsmen for their poor run of form. Manjrekar termed Rohit’s poor shot in the second innings of the Melbourne Test as a “mistake” and even doubted Kohli’s all-time greatness.

Sanjay Manjrekar makes a bold claim about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
During a discussion on ESPNCricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar hit out at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s shot selection in Melbourne. He termed Rohit’s firing as inexcusable and also feels that the manner of Kohli’s dismissal is becoming too similar.
“Rohit Sharma, the shot he played after playing so well, I don’t think there’s any excuse for that. That has to be seen as a mistake. For Virat Kohli to keep going out like that makes you question everything.. . the greatness of the time because it is becoming a bit too much,” Manjrekar said.
Rohit registered scores of 3 and 9 in the two innings of the Melbourne Test. He was out while trying to play aggressive shots in both innings. Meanwhile, Kohli scored 36 and 5 in the Melbourne Test. He looked solid in the early innings but couldn’t continue to put up a big score.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are having a disappointing run with the bat and it has also affected India’s performance. Rohit has scored just 31 runs in five innings at a miserable average of 6.20.
On the other hand, Kohli has better numbers but has been disappointing overall. The 36-year-old has collected 167 runs in four Tests at an average of just 27.83. Apart from his hundred in Perth and 36 in Melbourne, he has looked woefully out of form.

Sanjay Manjrekar also shed light on Rishabh Pant’s dismissal in the second innings of the Melbourne Test. He predicted why the keeper-batsman attempted a big shot after playing solidly up to that point.
“Regarding (Rishabh) Pant, I just wonder, in this last session, because India had so many wickets in hand, if there was any talk. In the press conference, Rohit Sharma alluded to that,” Manjrekar pointed out.
“With the wickets in hand, they thought they might have a go with Pant out there and see if things happen – a miraculous recovery might happen. If not, they could play for a draw,” the former batsman from the ‘India. added
Rishabh Pant played in an unusual manner and was looking to play for the draw. He looked solid and batted superbly in the second session on Day 5 alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, he tried to make a big shot with a Travis Head half-tracker and died in the process. He was dismissed for a 104-ball-30 and opened the floodgates for Australia.
