Islamic police in the northern Nigerian state of Cano arrested Muslims who saw and drink publicly, as well as those who sold food at the beginning of Ramadan when Muslims should fast from dawn.
Hisbah’s deputy commander Mujahid Aminuden told the BBC that 20 people were arrested for the missing and five food sale, and that the operations would continue for a month that began on Saturday.
“It is important to note that we do not concern ourselves by non-Muslims,” he said.
Mr -n Aminudeen said any “disrespect” for Ramadan would not be condemned.
“It breaks the heart that on such a holy moon, designed for fasting, adult Muslims will see how they eat and drank publicly. We will not justify it, and so we went to arrest,” he said.
He said that all 25 was charged with the Sharia court and would be punished accordingly.
Hisbah official added that sometimes they get clues when people see food.
“We really call people who are angry after people who eat people in public and we quickly act when going to this area to make arrests.”
He also confirmed the arrest of other people who were seen with “ridiculous haircuts”, wearing shorts over the driver of the knee and three -wheeled bicycles that mix passengers of men and women.
Last year, those who were arrested for the missing were released after promised to fast, while relatives or guardians of some of them were called and ordered to monitor them to make sure they quickly.
Those who were arrested this year are unlucky that they would have to face the court.
Just over two decades ago, Sharia or the Islamic Law was introduced to work with the secular law in 12 northern Nigeria, which have most Muslim populations. Sharia does not apply to Christian minorities living in the States.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is of particular importance in Islam.
It is this month that Muslims believe that the first poems of the Quran – the Islamic Holy Book – Prophet Muhammad were open.
