Alexander Isak has finally broken his silence about his future in Newcastle, saying that “confidence is lost” and that he “cannot continue” in the club in the midst of Liverpool’s sustained interest.
In a statement published on Instagram, Isak, who was voted on the men’s association’s male team (PFA) of the season for 2024/25, but has not been part of the preseason or start of the new campaign of the Magpies, stated that the promises were broken and that “the change is of the best interest of everyone.”
The statement said, “First, I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United, who has supported me along the way.
“I’m not at the ceremony tonight. With all that happened, I didn’t find it right to be.
He said: “I am proud to be recognized by my professional companions with a place in the PFA’s PFA League League team by 2024/25.
“I have kept calm for a long time while others have talked. This silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, although they know that it does not reflect what was really said and agreed to the closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. Acting now as if these problems were only emerging.
“When the promises are broken and confidence is lost, the relationship cannot continue. It is where things are for me right now, and why change is in the best interest of everyone, not just me.”
Liverpool has been closely linked to Sweden striker this summer. The Reds saw an offer of £ 110 million more rejected by Newcastle in early August.
The 25-year-old scored 23 goals in 34 appearances in the Premier League last term, as Eddie Howe’s men finished fifth to qualify for the Champions League.
The last term also saw that the club ended with a 70-year wait of a major trophy when they lifted the Carabao Cup, with Isak who won a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the final in Wembley.
