Carl Frampton believes that Josh Taylor will choose not to fight again after losing before Ekow Essuman in a unanimous loss of 12 rounds on Saturday night at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. This was Taylor’s third consecutive defeat and it was a struggle that was expected to win. The scores were 116-112, 116-113 and 115-113.
Essuman (22-1, 8 kos) is far from an elite or even level A fighters, but it was too well conditioned for the 34-year-old Taylor (19-3, 12 kos). Losing this level of fighter was a bitter pill for the ex -champion of the Taylor light to swallow. It was depressed when the scores were announced because he knew what the results for his career meant.
“I don’t believe it. This type was the elite elite, and he was a superstar. Of course he is not the fighter who was formerly,” said Carl Frampton in Dazn box When asked if Josh Taylor can fight again after his loss at Ekow Essuman on Saturday night in Glasgow.
The problem is not that Taylor has lost a lot of his game. It is more than a case that is never overrated. If you look at her best wins, she did not overcome the prominent fighters from 2017 to 2022. Taylor’s best wins were against these fighters during this five -year period:
– Jack Catterall
– King of the program
– Jose Ramirez
– Ivan Baranhyk
– Postol Viktor
– Miguel Vazquez
“It depends on what their dreams and ambitions are. I think it was to become a two-pesos world champion. But in a performance like this, I don’t think it is possible.”
Taylor’s only chance of becoming two-pesos world champion is if he gets a title shot against the crash winner between WBC Welterweight, Mario Barrios and Manny Pacquiao. This does not seem to happen after the loss of Josh against Essuman. For Taylor to have a title shot, he must return and beat someone well.
“He had it during the first pair of rounds, and that’s all,” said the commentator ADE Oladipo about Taylor who looks good in the first two or three rounds against Ekow, and then fading quickly. “He had a sharp look, he looked very good. That SouthPaw left landed, and the engine seemed empty very, very fast,” said Ade on Josh.
In the last Taylor fights, he had not shown problems with his resistance. However, he had been out of the ring for a year since his loss against Jack Catterrall in May 2024, and has only struggled four times since 2021. Being inactive for a long period may have taken into account Taylor’s gasoline. It is his fault. If Josh had been active, fighting against three years since 2021, he probably would not have had this problem.
“It was like a 2 -liter engine against a 1.6,” said Darren Barker, speaking that Essuman had more energy than tailor -looking Taylor. “It was a engine that began to fade -it was a good start for Taylor.”
The strangest thing is that Essuman seemed slow, as if he did not spend energy with the rhythm he struggled. However, he only continued to calmly attack Taylor, sometimes he landed large and he was carrying it. Taylor did not like to be affected by the heavy features of Essuman.
“He was in a good slot, showing a real fire, and this kind of willingness to win that we were used to seeing from Taylor. But as this struggle advanced, this man (Essuman) would not say completely overwhelmed, but he beat Taylor. Three or four shots for each of Taylor,” said Barker.
Ekow landed the heaviest shots and fired on the body when Taylor struggled in nearby quarters, trying to keep.
