More often than not, Star Wars it is about redemption. Darth Vader saves Luke. Ben Solo helps Rey. The Mandalorian give up your code for Grogu. On the list, characters who are once bad end up turning good. So far, however, on the latter Star Wars show, The skeleton crew, we saw the opposite. Jod Nawood (Jude Law) has gone from a charming hero to a bad villain throughout the series and now, as we reach the end, we wonder, what happens next?
Obviously, your guess is as good as ours here. We haven’t seen the final episode yet, and we won’t until everyone else does at 9 pm EST next Tuesday, January 14. So don’t worry about spoilers. We’re just wondering if the show will keep its top A-list star a villain or if that’s even a possibility.
To quickly recap, the four kids who make up the crew meet Jod in a prison where he uses the Force to help them escape. He then became their de facto guide and leader as they attempted to return to their home planet of At-Attin. Jod, however, who is known by almost all the characters of the show as a different name, seemed to be mainly marked not for kindness. We wanted to see if the legends are true. If At-Attin really has a huge treasure.
So Jod took the crew across the galaxy, gathered clues, and gracefully avoided any specifics about himself. We know he is Force Sensitive. We think he was telling the truth about being lost and alone. He was definitely a pirate captain before he made a few mistakes. But when it became clear At-Attin housed some kind of treasure, a switch went off. The anti-hero instantly became the selfish and evil pirate we met in the first scene of the series. And, at the end of the penultimate seventh episodehe had taken things too far, killing his first mate Brutus, brandishing a lightsaber to threaten the children. and his parents, and finally discover the treasure of At-Attin.
In our minds, The skeleton crew he took so much care to show Jod that he fully embraces his hacker side, it would almost be a betrayal for him to go back. At least in this season Perhaps, at the end of this season, he escapes and in a hypothetical next season, we will see him learn the error of his ways. Anakin Skywalker, of course, is very famous again on the Actually Having Killed Some Kids side of things – Jod is pretty tame in the grand scheme of things. Sure, he cut SM-33’s head clean off, but he didn’t step on the cute alien mouse that called that boss home! If that change happens now, though, this season, it would be a huge disappointment if he immediately turns down the path he’s taken.
Jod’s arc was one of the real highlights of the show, setting up an emotional showdown between him and the four kids he pretended to save. Let’s keep it that way. Make the star of your show a villain. We don’t care. We like it. If The skeleton crew hopes to go down as perhaps the second best Disney + Star Wars shows to date, should play that out and keep him living on that dark side for a little while longer.
