Iran’s High leader Ayatollah Ali Homerne rejected the idea of negotiations from the US on its nuclear program because Tehran confirmed that he had received a letter from President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump said in this letter was offered negotiations on an agreement that would prevent Iran from buying nuclear weapons and avoiding possible hostilities.
Although Homena said he had not seen a letter delivered by an official from the United Arab Emirates, he dismissed him as a “deception of public opinion.”
“If we know they don’t honor what the meaning of the negotiations?” he asked, citing Trump’s decision to abandon the 2015 Iranian nuclear transaction during the first term.
He warned that Iran would avenge in the case of strikes at his nuclear premises.
“Iran does not seek war, but if Americans or their agents take the wrong step, our answer will be decisive and certain, and the one who suffered the most harm is America,” he said.
The supreme leader, who has the last word on all state matters, also confirmed that Iran is “not interested in nuclear weapons”.
Ten years ago, the country agreed with the historic transaction with six world powers – China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States – to restrict its nuclear activity and allow monitoring inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in return for sanctions.
However, Trump unilaterally pulled out the United States from the 2018 agreement and resumed crippled US economic sanctions. He called it a “worst transaction in history”, saying it was too little to stop Iran’s potential path to building a nuclear bomb.
Iran replied, increasingly violating the terms of the transaction, especially those who limit the production of enriched uranium, which can be used to produce fuel for nuclear power plants as well as to create nuclear weapons.
Last month, the IAEA stated that Iran took almost 275 kg (606 pounds) in uranium, enriched to 60% of the cleanliness near the weapon level. This would theoretically be enough if you enrich up to 90%, for six nuclear bombs.
Both the US and Israel warned that they would never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. Israel, if necessary, threatens to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Last year, Israel said he got into a part of Iran’s nuclear program during blows in response to an Iranian missile attack.
In a broadcast of a television interview last Friday, Trump said: “There are two ways to get around Iran: in the military terms, or you make a deal. I would like to make a deal because I don’t want to harm Iran. They’re great people.”
“I wrote to them a letter saying,” I hope you are going to negotiate, “because if we have to go to the military, it will be scary for them,” he added.
The White House did not give any details about the content of the letter, which, according to Iran, was handed over to Foreign Minister Abbama Arakchi, a UAE President Anvar Gargash.
Despite the fact that the supreme leader rejected the idea of negotiations from the United States, the Iran’s mission to the UN said in a statement on Sunday that this may consider negotiating “if the goal … to resolve problems in relation to any potential militarization of Iran’s nuclear program.”
On Wednesday, Arakchy also stated that nuclear talks with the UK, France and Germany are “continuing” and the Chinese Foreign Ministry said China, Russia and Iran would discuss the “Iranian nuclear issue” at a trilateral meeting in Beijing on Friday.
