Iran states that wants “fair consent” ahead of US nuclear negotiations

Iran’s Foreign Minister arrived in Oman for negotiations with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program.

Abbas Arakhchi told Iran’s state television that his country wants a “fair agreement” as the delegations of both countries are preparing for negotiations.

US President Donald Trump last month sent a letter to Iran’s High leader through the United Arab Emirates, saying he wants a deal to prevent Iran to buy nuclear weapons and avoid possible military strikes by the United States and Israel.

Trump pulled out the United States from the previous nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers in 2018, and has long stated that he would make a “best” deal. So far, Iran has rejected the negotiation.

These discussions are a high level since Trump’s first term, but it is unclear whether both sides will sit in the same room.

“Our intention is to reach a fair and honorable agreement from an equal position, and if the other side also comes from the same position, then hopefully there will be a chance for the original understanding that will lead to the path of negotiations,” Arakhchi said.

He added that the team that came with him consisted of experts who “know in this particular sphere and in history negotiations on this issue.”

Arahchi said the negotiations were “indirect” and were limited to their nuclear program.

The US Messenger of the United States in the Middle East Steve Witcoof leads an American delegation.

Trump revealed the upcoming negotiations during a visit to the White House on Monday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said on Tuesday that both leaders agreed: “Iran would not have nuclear weapons.”

Trump warned that the United States would use military force unless the deal is reached, and Iran has repeatedly stated that there would be no pressure negotiations.

On Monday, the US president told reporters in the oval office that the meeting this weekend in Oman would be “very big”, also warning that “it will be a very bad day for Iran” if the negotiations are not successful.

Iran insists that its nuclear activity is completely peaceful and it will never strive for the development and acquisition of nuclear weapons.

However, since Trump came out of the 2015 Agreement – ending this year – Iran has increasingly violated the restrictions imposed by the available nuclear transaction, in retaliation for the crop of US sanctions, restored seven years ago, and the reserves are highly enriched with uranium to make several bombs.
