IPL 2025 will start from March 21, BCCI confirms

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start on March 21 and conclude on May 25. The announcement was made by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla during an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak. The dates are a slight revision of the previously proposed March 14 start.

IPL will start right after Champions Trophy 2025

The next season of IPL will follow immediately after the ICC Champions Trophywhich extends from February 19 to March 9. The tight schedule highlights the packed Indian cricket calendar, with back-to-back marquee events.

The inaugural IPL 2025 will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and the rest of the schedule is expected to be released soon.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by a new captain, will enter the new season as the reigning champions. KKR claimed the title last year by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a thrilling finale.

Fans will be eager to see how the teams line up after the recent IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Several high-profile transfers took place during the auction, with significant changes in the composition of the teams.

One of the most talked about changes is Rishabh Pant’s move to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The former Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper joined LSG, while KL Rahul, who captained LSG last season, was picked by DC.

Future IPL seasons are also announced

The BCCI has also revealed the tentative dates for the next two IPL seasons:

• IPL 2026: From March 15 to May 31
• IPL 2027: From March 14 to May 30

Apart from the schedule updates, the BCCI has appointed a new IPL commissioner for a one-year term. The identity of the new commissioner has yet to be revealed, but his role will be critical to ensuring the smooth running of the league.

The next BCCI meeting, scheduled for January 18-19, will focus on finalizing India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy and reviewing plans for the upcoming IPL season.
