IPL 2025- Venkatesh Prasad brings RCB to cleansers; exposes defective processes

Former India Cricter Venkatesh Prasad criticized the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for not investing in local talent before the season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). Venkatesh Prasad questioned the strategy of the Bengaluru Franchise of not showing faith in local players during the T20 Tournament.

The Royal Challengers have been criticized for relying on star players and talent abroad, rather than promoting local players. RCB has struggled to build a strong nucleus of local players, unlike other franchises. The team is still one of the most popular franchises despite not winning an IPL title.

Other teams are doing faith in local talent: Venkatesh Prasad

It was expected that the Premier League of Karnataka (KPL) would help discover local talent, but did not give the desired results for RCB. The franchise acquired some players from Karnataka through the IPL auction, but none has had a significant impact. They still have to integrate local players into their configuration.

Venkatesh Prasad was not impressed with the Royal Challengers to prioritize brand value on local talent. Asked why the franchise has not shown faith in homemade players, unlike others teams they have developed local stars. Prasad urged RCB to focus on getting the most out of his players.

“How do you manage a team makes the whole difference. Other teams are doing at local talent, why are the RCB doing the same? They are building a brand, or really concentrating on winning the IPL? They need to get the best of their players, which has not happened so far,” said Venkatesh Prasad in Jiohtstar.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru currently has two local players in its squad. Manoj Bhandage has been with the franchise since 2023, but he has not yet made his debut at the IPL.
