Introductory statements start in New York

Harvey Weinstein’s prosecutors and lawyers issued applications on Wednesday in the “performance of the film producer”, and the prosecutor’s office accused him of using his power in Hollywood for sexual abuse and persecution of three women.

“The defendant wanted their bodies, and the more they resisted, the stronger he received,” said the Assistant Prosecutor Shannon Lucy on Wednesday.

In his third trial, for five years, Weinstein is accused of sexual abuse of a former television production assistant, a beginner actress and models.

The former film did not plead guilty, and in court his lawyer sought to doubt the requirements of women and authority.

Prosecutor Arthur Eidal said to the juror that the case would “fall on the face” after they heard all the evidence.

“They are going to ask you to make sense of things that just don’t make sense,” he said.

The Court of Appeal overturned the preliminary conviction of Weinstein for his sex crimes in New York in April before he was charged with new sexual assault in the state in September.

During the first week of re -discrepancy, 12 jury – seven women and five men – were chosen for weighing Weinstein’s fate.

In the resolution of April last April, the Court of Appeal stated that Weinstein, who is now 73, did not receive a fair trial because the judge who overseen his case allowed the women who opposed him for his behavior, which he had never been accused.

Weinstein was serving a 23-year term in New York’s prison after being sentenced in 2020.

He was also found guilty of raping in a separate lawsuit in California in 2022 and sentenced to 16 years in the case.

Repeated in New York, it is likely to re -include the testimony of two women who charged against Weinstein’s trial in 2020. Actress Jessica Mann and former television production assistant Miriam Hale at the time testified.

This time, the trial will also include an unnamed woman who claims that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex at the Manhattan Hotel in 2006.

Weinstein has several medical conditions, including cancer and diabetes. In September, he was taken to a hospital for heart surgery and held at a safe hospital unit.

The judge approved the request of Vinstein’s lawyers to allow him to stay at the Belvo Hospital in Manhattan if he was not in court.

His lawyers complained that he was receiving bad treatment in non -hygienic conditions in a shameful prison institution on Ricars – which officials have long stated that they plan to close – although this step is delayed.

In total, Weinstein is accused of violating sexual acts, attacks and rapes of more than 100 women.

He is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison, as he will not start serving his 16-year-old California term.

The decision of his accusers will speak, and his next conviction of New York, the #metoo galvanized movement against sexual abuse by powerful people.

Before the allegations of him appeared, Weinstein and his brother Bob were one of the main players in Hollywood.

Weinstein co -base Miramax, whose hits entered the love of Shakespeare, which won the best picture at the Academy Award, and “cellulose fantasy”.

His films received more than 300 nominations for Oscar and 81 wins.

The former movie “Might” also encountered a number of civil lawsuits, including a group of women who accused him of sexual harassment and rape, and in 2020 reached a $ 19 million settlement (£ 14.2).
