BBCA family of an Indian man who was shot dead during the illegal crossing to Israel says he fell victim to the scam.
Thomas Gabriel Peuro was killed by the Jordanian security forces at the border with Israel on February 10.
He was attracted to Jordan’s promise of profitable work, and when he did not come true, he tried to enter Israel when he was told he could find a job there, his family said.
The reports of the Indians who are engaged in employment scams and illegally entering other countries to seek work are becoming more common.
The 47th Peuro was accompanied by a brother-in-law Edison Charles, who was injured in the incident. Mr. Charlas was treated in the hospital and spent two weeks in prison before he was repatched to India.
Both men were from the South Indian state of Kerala, where the driver of the auto-rickwater worked.
The agent promised them that they could get a job in blue collars in Jordan, earning Rs 350,000 (4000 dollars; 3110 pounds) per month.
Mr. Charles told BBC that he paid 210,000 Rs agent before leaving India and paid an additional $ 600 after reaching Jordan on a tourist visa.
But when two men arrived in the capital of Jordan Oman in early February, the agent was told that there was no work.
The agent then suggested that they should try to go illegally to Israel, saying that there were many opportunities.
On February 10, Mr. Charles and Peuro joined a group that traveled to the Jordan’s border with Israel for hours.
“We were taken into the car. It was a great distance. We got into the car at 2 pm and got to the place only about midnight. Then we were forced to walk a few kilometers along the shoreline. It was during the walk in the dark that we were shot dead,” Mr. Charles said.
BBC saw a letter sent by the Indian Embassy of Peuro to Jordan. It states that “security forces tried to stop them, but they did not listen to warnings, the guards opened fire on them.”
“One bullet hit Mr. Thomas (Peuro) in his head, and he died on the spot.”
Mr. Charles, however, disputed the account and said that “there was no such warning (from the guards). They just shot.”
“I slowly followed the rest in the darkness … when the bullet hit me and I fainted. I had no idea what happened to Thomas,” he said.
The BBC asked the Indian Foreign Ministry and the Jordanian authorities to comment on the allegations of Mr.
Mr. Charlas said he was later taken to a hospital for treatment and then moved between several governmental institutions of Jordan before he was transferred to prison, where he was held for 18 days.
While in prison, he managed to contact his wife and told her what happened and his wife contacted the embassy’s Indian officials.
Mr. Charles was deported to India on February 28.
Peuro’s body is still in Jordan. In response to the BBC requests, the Indian Foreign Ministry said they were working to return the body to India as soon as possible.
“I am told that it will take one -two days to complete the documentation and other things that need to be completed,” said Randhir Jacewal, a press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Monday, highway Tarur, a Member of the Parliament representing the constituency of Peuro Tirovanthopur, said the members of the Indian Embassy in Jordan had checked the victim’s identity And the body transport process began.
Gets the imageDespite numerous government warnings, many Indians still become a scam production and risk illegally entering countries to find a job, observers say.
“The Operandi Modus is to get a tourist visa for one country, and then enter the neighboring country,” said Kalaseri, Norka CEO, Keral Government Department, who oversaw migration.
“No country will accept illegal entry. We have constantly issued recommendations to people to be wary of rackets, but they are still going.”
In recent years there were hundreds of Indians saved from scams in Cambodia and other parts of Southeast Asia. After being lured abroad, they were sent to the center, promising good jobs.
Indian citizens were also cheated on the fight for Russia In the war with Ukraine after offered forged jobs and opportunities to study abroad.
100 Indians who were Deported from the US last month After he was charged with illegal entry into the country, he was also littered with the hope for a better life, said Rajan, who heads the International Institute for Migration and Development in Tirovanthopur.
“They also paid the money to the agents and cheated. It’s a fight to get a better salary (it drives it),” he said.
