In a significant movement after the deadly terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government has blocked access to several Pakistani YouTube channels, including those belonging to prominent cricketers Shoaib AkhtarSimple ali and Rashid latif. The ban, announced on Monday (April 28, 2025), occurs in the midst of the increased tensions between India and Pakistan as a result of the assault that claimed the life of 26 civilians last week.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MHA) recommended strict action, citing concerns about the dissemination of “commonly provocative and sensitive content” and the spread of “false and misleading narratives” aimed at India, its armed forces and security agencies. The ministry stated that these channels were especially active in spreading this content after Pahalgam’s tragedy.
Blocked channels sort a massive online presence, which has more than 63 million subscribers. The list includes major Pakistani news organizations such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, Ary News, Bol News, Raftar, Geo News and Suno News. This widespread prohibition means a decisive step of the Indian government to stop the flow of information that it considers to be detrimental to national security and public order.
Indian users trying to access these channels are now with a standard YouTube message indicating, “This content is currently not available in this country due to a government order related to national security or public order.”
Among the most prominent individuals affected by the repression is the ex -Pakistan Pacer Shoaib Akhtar. Its YouTube channel, which enjoys more than 3.5 million subscribers, including a significant number of Indian Cricket enthusiasts, is known for their in -depth cricket analysis and comment. The blockade of the Akhtar Channel, along with those of its former Crictermers based on Ali and Rashid Latif, emphasizes the wide range of government action.
This digital blockade is a direct consequence of the horror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, where militants opened fire to tourists, which resulted in the tragic death of 25 Indian nationals and a Nepali citizen.

Beyond the YouTube ban, reports suggest that the Indian government has begun other measures in response to Pahalgam’s attack, including a reported suspension of the Treaty of Indus Water and directives for Pakistani citizens resident in India.
