Three lonely nuns, filtered by hormones. One Hunky Gardener, lustful. What could go wrong?
No we don’t describe pornography – we’re talking about The small hoursA very funny dark comedy stars horsemen from funny actors like Aubrey Plaza. Molly Shannon. Alison Brie and Dave Franco.
Inspired by The decameronA collection of short stories by the 14th -century Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio, The small hours is a raunchy comedy that feels like Superbad meet Monty python meet Maiden.
It takes classic ropes for feminine sexuality and turns them on their heads for a shocking and entertaining ride.
This is why you should watch this comedy on Peacock.

Plaza, Shannon, Brie and Franco are not the only comedy icons in this film. Even bit parts are played by actors that you know from your favorite comedy series. John C. Reilly (Winning Time), Kate Micucci (Raise hope))) Nick Offerman (Parks and leisure), Fred armies (Saturday night live)) Adam pally (The Mindy project) All appear in this film, and each brings their unique talent to the story, even if they are only on screen for a few seconds.
Written and directed by Recent Plaza’s husband, Jeff BaenaIt is clear that this low budget film is a labor of love for everyone involved, and that they all signed on the project because they know they would have fun doing it. The cast has an easy chemistry that is a pleasure to watch.

How often do you reach the journey back in time to Italy from the 14th century? (Well, if you watched Netflix’s The decameronat least 8 episodes, but The small hours did first.)
Gold comedy is a modern dialogue juxtaposition with the classic setting. In one scene, the nuns are motivating a gardener for bold to look at them with an exile loaded ferocity that would make Cardi b blush.

The small hours is a story about the structures that allow women to live their lives outside a marriage in a patriarchal society. The nuns live under the supervision of Father Tommasso (Reilly), but he is so drunk ineffective that he hardly executes any control over them.
When the Sister Alessandra (Brie) receives a visit from her father (Paul is traveling), they are not even allowed to see each other – she talks to him from behind a curtain. The women are covered, shaded from the masculine staring and even permission to express rabies to men, as in the gardener scene above. But they are still expected to persecute and deny their own desires.
Some of the women are more satisfied with this status than others – Alessandra wants to escape the cove and marry, for example. When Massetto (Franco) arrives at the convent, pretending to be deaf and dumb to avoid antagonizing the nuns, they see him as an unsafe man and bring sexually interest in him. This turns into competition quickly, turning the nuns against each other.
The characters also encounter a local covenant of witches, led by Marta (Jemima Church of Lady), that allows even more freedom from the supervision of men but often violently.
The small hours Displays a variety of extreme ways in which women could live outside the rules of society – but none seem really satisfactory.
For such a silly, raunchy film, it raises some big questions about whether women can feel safe, free and fulfilled in a patriarchal world.
