From the beginning, Coal It has a slim line to walk because Eddie (Skarsgård) needs to be sympathetic as the main character and also a thief. The same redemption quality of Eddie is that he loves his daughter, Sarah (Ashley Cartwright). Eddie is well aware that he has let Sarah down again, and he turns to Thievery because he sees no other options to get the money he needs.
Once Eddie is trapped in the SUV, he changes from an offense to a victim. It is almost dark funny that Skarsgård can act so convincingly as if he was intimidated when his characters usually classify the terror his horror movies He will and Nightmare. But Eddie has a completely different persona than any of Skarsgård’s previous characters. He chose the wrong car for Rob, and he pays the price. And yet, the audience never turns Eddie despite the crimes he committed earlier in the film. He is still an ordinary man in an extraordinary position.
Anthony Hopkins presents another great performance

Is Hopkins’ performance Coal in the same galaxy with his turn that won Oscar in The silence of the lambs? Of course not. But Hopkins seems to be incapable of giving poor performance, and his own presence is elevated Coal of B-Movie status. More strikingly, Hopkins conveys a real sense of threat with only his voice.

The character of Hopkins, William, is kept off the screen for most of the film. It is kind of coming off as a rich man’s version of a jig -so of the Saw Movies. William delights in tormenting Eddie, who was silly enough to fall into his trap. William does not want Eddie to suffer for his crime alone; He wants him to receive his punishment no matter how extreme he gets.
‘Locked’ gets the best of its limited budget

In spite of having two listing actors on the call sheet, Coal appears to have a very small budget. Almost the whole film takes place in and around the luxury SUV that holds Eddie. However, the film manages to build some suspension when Eddie tries to rebel against William or when Eddie tries to escape.
While the scenes with the SUV on the road are not as convincing as the rest of the film, those scenes still convey the fear of Eddie. Ultimately, the story depends on proof of wills between Eddie and William. And when it looks like one of them overcomes, the film throws more turns for you to keep watching until its shocking end.
