Like Clooney, Jennifer Lopez was still relatively early in her career when she was cast as FBI agent Karen Sisco. Karen is an unconventional heroine, partly because she develops feelings for Jack in trying to capture him and his helpers. That was credible only because Lopez and Clooney had a great chemistry together, especially during their scene where Karen and Jack are locked together in a car trunk.
Lopez and Clooney’s characters are not physically present together more than a handful of times, but all are memorable. Small things like a wave or even a sensible dream build their strange attraction to each other until the proper highlight during Karen and Jack’s “Time Out”.
Soderbergh does something very interesting with Karen and Jack’s romantic interludity – he co -assumed their initial occasional meeting in a public bar with their private time and close to you later, showing the result of their date before it actually starts. It’s a great sequence, and one of the film’s most memorable parts.
