Shreyas Iyer found no place in the Indian test squad for the tour of England, despite performing in the national season. Former Indian Traicter Virender Sehwag is quite annoying with Iyer’s omission of the test workforce.
Sehwag wants to see Iyer on the test team due to its current form, as Sehwag thinks it is good to bring a player to report on the tour because there is more chance of executing it.

Virender Sehwag loves Shreyas Iyer’s approach
Virender Sehwag loves Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive approach and, if Iyer is selected on the squad and plays with the same approach to the red ball cricket, will benefit the team more.
Sehwag believes that in order to counteract England’s aggressive approach to the test cricket, the Indian team can also be adapted to an aggressive approach and put them under pressure.
“When you are in good shape, it is good to take it on the tour because there is higher possibilities to do it. I would like to see it on the test team. If you keep the same approach to the test cricket, benefit the team.
“If you have 2-3 players like this, it puts the fear of the opposition. England plays 6-7 rolls/more. If the Indian team even manages to play at 4-5 runs/more, they can put them under pressure,” said Sehwag.
Sehwag also emphasized that Iyer had a great season in all formats, and also brought Punjab Kings well to the IPL 2025. Sehwag accredited the recent form of Iyer and asked the direction why he cannot play Click of Red Ball.
“Iyer has had a great season, she is also the captain. Why can’t she play the test cricket? She can certainly play the three formats,” added Sehwag.
The aggressive iyer cricket would have put the pressure on England in English conditions, where the bowls have a higher hand under swing conditions.
Shreyas iyer’s brilliant career
Iyer was abandoned from the Indian test team in the middle of the England series in 2023. After being fallen from the side, Iyer showed his worth in the domestic cricket.
Iyer played an important role in Mumbai’s victory in the triumph of the Ranji Trophy and continued to offer bright performances for India to hate.
Shreyas also played a key role in the winning campaign of the Champions Trophy of India Triumph in 2025.

Karun Nair returned to the Indian test configuration after nine years, and Sai Sudharsan will debut on the Indian test team. Both players were selected by Shreyas Iyer on the squad.
Nair and Sudharsan also worked well at the domestic circuit and selectors gave them a chance about Iyer in the red ball format.
