” If he (Virat Kohli) didn’t like somebody, didn’t feel that somebody is good, then they were cut. (Ambati) Rayudu is the prime example,” Uthappa said in an interview with Lallantop, expressing his displeasure at how Rayudu was treated at such a crucial time in his career.

Virat Kohli left a player in limbo
Uthappa’s comments highlight a wider issue within team sports: the emotional toll of players who linger on the brink of selection only to be dropped at the last minute. Uthappa lamented this situation, adding: “You feel bad. Everyone has preferences, I agree, but you can’t close the door on a player after you’ve taken him to the top. He had World Cup clothes, a World Cup kit bag World, everything was in his house. A player would be thinking that he is going to the World Cup. But you close the door on him.”

The fallout of Rayudu’s exclusion went beyond a player’s disappointment. It sparked a wide-ranging debate about selection policies and transparency within the Indian cricket system.
