Simply put, a modern anime landscape is not for me. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t take any specific shady with modern anime as a whole. I’m sure there were shows that would interest me from a narrative perspective. But, there’s something about anime culture today that doesn’t enchant me: it all feels incredibly safe compared to what I grew up with in anime that felt legitimate dangerous.
When anime Who first made his great motion in America, was off feature movie backs like Akira and Spirit in the shell Break out in such a way that they could not be ignored by American pop culture. A huge reason for this was how aggressive the adult of these stories was and their executions. Very quickly, anime in America started to contain two prominent flavors: films/shows aimed square for children (even if that meant some heavy censorship), and movies/shows that sold anime on being controversial and even dangerous if children saw it.
So, yes, as a child, that’s the anime I saw a bunch of it and I miss it so obviously.
Anime not for children
I watched tons of “kid -friendly” (a silly, censorship term that actually means no) animated programming and loved it. But, when I discovered anime and its origin in Japan, I searched for the types of “cartoons” that I could never have dreamed of. The art form of animation always fights to be considered more than a genre for babies. Anime taught that valuable lesson by giving me a healthy dose of three b driving in: blood, breasts and monsters.
In my middle school days, I was devaluing the adventures of the Guyver as he sliced through odd zoanoids while the vampire hunter called D did the same with gnarly monsters of horror fuel future. All the time, I prayed that my parents did not walk in the room in time to see a boob animated by Cel or disable ink-and-paint. He felt thrilling to watch this kind of things and felt like you escaped with something truly dangerous and transformative.
That’s why I don’t feel much towards anime today, especially when it is called dangerous or bad by idiots.
Anime is all about children (and those rare) now
Naturally, there are still plenty of modern anime projects that have a lovely material in them, but it is the more nature of the beast that has changed. Anime is a dollar bazillion industry and only if you take advantage of the imagination and excitement of children (and adults who can’t grow up) you will get that kind of wealth revolution. As such, the presentation and major pushes of the anime industry have to try to rope more in children (and the children who are rare) more than they are not.
So when I hear for a little holy roller hot air mourning how anime is like Demon Slayer dangerous and bad, I want to strap it down and make him watch each chapter of A pet shop of horrors In addition to the entire run of the original Bart Customized. Then we can talk about anime evils and how amazing they are. Because nothing in a popular anime mainstream landscape makes anything as truly controversial or bold as when anime sold itself on being dangerous. If some of you were watching even one chapter of Bull mad 34Your brain would be a short circuit.
I hope there will be a generation of anime fans looking for past hazardous material. Things are only going to get more and more sanitary in anime as it continues to offer for the most prominent form of popular entertainment on the planet. Don’t let them make you forget you wouldn’t have One piece If it wasn’t for the bloody path, bad taste, so many anime projects were paving to get here.
