A group of about 600 Israeli officials, including former heads of special services, wrote to US President Donald Trump to press on Israel to finish the war at once.
“It is our professional opinion that Hamas no longer pose a strategic threat to Israel,” officials said.
“Your authority overwhelmingly increases your ability to govern the Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu and his government in the right direction: end the war, return hostages, stop suffering,” they wrote.
Their call comes against the backdrop of reports that Netanyahu is pushing for the expansion of hostilities in Gaza, as indirect negotiations on the ceasefire with Hamas stopped.
On October 7, 2023, Israel launched a devastating war after Hamas attack in southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and 251 as hostages.
More than 60,000 people have been killed in the Israeli military campaign since Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health Hamas.
On Monday, the ministry reported that at least 94 people were killed in Gaza last day, including dozens, they said, killed in Israeli.
At least 24 people were killed while looking for help, he added. Such reports in recent months have become almost daily, but it is difficult to check out how international journalists, including the BBC, have been blocked by Israel from entering the gas on their own.
The territory also feels massive deprivation as a result of severe restrictions imposed by Israel on what is allowed in gas. The ministry states that 180 people, including 93 children, died of malnutrition since the war.
Supported agencies said that “the worst hunger scenario is currently playing” in Gaza.
The last intervention of the best former Israeli officials occurred after a video from two exhausted Israeli hostages released by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants.
The video was widely convicted by Israeli and Western leaders.
After the video was released, Netanyahu talked to two hostages families, telling them that efforts to return all hostages “will continue and tirelessly.”
But the Israeli official – widely quotes the local media – said that Netanyahu was working on a thrill through the “Military defeat of Hamas”.
The possibility of a new escalation to Gaza can even more ange the Israel’s allies, which push the immediate ceasefire, as reports of Palestinians who die from hunger or malnutrition cause shock around the world.
The main group that supports the hostage family condemned the idea of a new military offensive: “Netanyahu leads Israel and hostages to Doom.”
This opinion was highlighted in a letter to Trump by former Mossada Tamir Parda, Aemi Ayalon, former Beta Chief – at the domestic secret service of Israel, former Prime Minister Ehud Barack and former Defense Minister Moshe Jaalon.
“At first, this war was a fair war, a defensive war, but when we reached all military goals, this war ceased to be a fair war,” Ayalon said.
Former major leaders are headed by the Israeli security commanders (CIS), which has called on the government to focus on providing hostage return.
“Stop the war in Gaza! On behalf of the CIS, the largest in the Israeli group of former IDF and Mosad generals, the Beta tire, the police and the equivalents of the diplomatic corps, we urge you to end the war.
Israel has faced growing international isolation, as the widespread destruction in gas and the suffering of the Palestinians is indignant.
Polls around the world believe that public opinion is becoming increasingly negative about Israel, which put pressure on Western leaders.
But it is unclear what pressure, if any, Trump decided to put on the Prime Minister of Israel.
The US president has consistently supported his ally, although last week he publicly acknowledged that “real fasting” had happened after Netanyahu insisted that there was no such thing.
