Hundreds of flights were canceled throughout Germany when the airport workers put a nationwide strike for remuneration, which creates serious violations for air carriers.
Industrial actions led by the Verdi union began unexpectedly on Sunday at the Hamburg airport before expanding to a nationwide strike.
Passengers in Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and other large knots were urged not to go to airports, and operations were heavily broken. Frankfurt, the most lively German airport, said passengers would not be able to translate flights, and the transfer “almost certainly” will affect.
Verdi, representing the public sector and transport workers, is in a constant dispute over wages and working conditions.
German media report that thousands of flights can be canceled during the day, breaking trips to more than 500,000 passengers.
Lufthansa, the main center of which is in Frankfurt, confirmed “delays and widespread cancellations” in all its airlines, while Munich Airport warned “a significantly short -term flight schedule”.
Hamburg Airport Press Socialist Katya Bromm, where all 143 trips planned on Monday have already been canceled, said Verdi is “dishonest” to cause a strike without notice at the beginning of the holiday season.
She said that the walks on Sunday were “excessive and unfair to tens of thousands of travelers who have nothing to do with disputes.”
The Verdi press -secretary acknowledged that the strike would affect a lot, but told the German media that causing violations was necessary to obtain a better offer from employers.
Many of the 1770 Frankfurt airport flights have already been canceled, and most 820 Munich flights are expected to be canceled.
Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Berlin are expected hundreds of cancellation.
Many passengers were already checked in the luggage and had problems returning it, Public Broadcaster Ndr reports. It also reports that the strike brought air traffic at the Hanover airport.
Outside the Verdi airports, he also called for waste collection in several German cities, including Berlin, Essen and Kiel, where since last week the saver has remained unprecedented.
The union requires an increase in 8% for airport workers, or at least 350 euros per month, as well as higher bonuses and extra rest. Employers still rejected these requirements as inaccessible.
Further strikes are expected to go this week in the facilities governed by the federal government and local authorities, the DPA news agency reports, citing the Verdi press.
The next round of negotiations should take place on Friday in Potdam.
