Hundreds of flights canceled in China when strong winds hit the capital

Hundreds of flights were canceled and the trains were rejected when Halez hit Beijing and Northern China on Saturday.

By 11:30 local time (3:30 GMT), 838 flights were canceled at two major airports on Saturday, Reuters reports.

Wind gusts up to 93 km / h (150 km / h) – the strongest in the Chinese capital for more than half a century – should continue over the weekend, forcing the sights and historical sites.

On Friday, millions urged to stay indoors, with some state -owned media warning that people weighing less than 50 kg could be “easily blown”.

Train services, including the express airport subway and some high-speed rail lines, have been suspended. The parks were also closed, with old trees enhanced or cropped in preparation, but nearly 300 trees have already fallen in the capital.

A number of vehicles were damaged but not reported about injuries – in Beijing, most residents watched the advice of the authorities after the city warned 22 million residents to avoid insignificant trips.

“Everyone in Beijing was very nervous about this. Today, there are unlikely people on the streets. However, it was not as serious as I imagined,” said a local resident of Reuters.

While the businessman from Zhejiang has canceled his flight home.

“From the strong wind, all flights planned last night and today have been canceled. So I will probably rewrite my flight in a couple of days. Now I remain in Beijing,” he said.

The strong wind goes with the cold whirling system over Mongolia and is expected to last over the weekend.

Beijing issued his first orange warning about strong winds in ten years, when the strongest winds are expected on Saturday.

China measures wind speed with a scale that passes from level 1 to 17. Level 11 of the wind, according to the meteorological administration of China, can cause “serious damage”, and the wind of 12 levels brings “extraordinary destruction”.

The winds are expected this weekend to vary from level 11 to 13, and the conditions are supposed to be facilitated until Sunday.
