Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe could not say if Alexander Isak will be suitable for his premier League end against Everton after losing 1-0 defeat in Arsenal.
Isak was a surprise omission of the squad with an injury to the groin and the absence of the man who has 27 goals in all competitions this season he felt a lot at the Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle dominated the first half, but found David Raya prominently in the Arsenal goal, as he saved five to maintain the score level.
Arsenal was very much improved in the second half, and the impressive long-term declan effort settled in the game, leaving Newcastle that still needed a victory over Everton on the last day of next Sunday to make sure of the Champions League football next season.
Newcastle is expected to claim this victory, but its task will be harder if Isak is not involved, Callum Wilson has struggled to have an impact on Arsenal.
“He has a little swelling in a muscle in his intake. So we hope he is fine pretty quickly, but we don’t know what he will look like next week,” Howe said to BBC Sport on his star’s shape.
“Obviously, it is a quick change, so it only has seven days to get in shape. Cross fingers can come.”
Howe added: “From our perspective we became a little too passive.
“At first, we were a bit neglected in the ball, where we had been excellent in the ball before.
“I think there are things to learn, but I think you have spells like that out of the house, but I think we may not adapt quickly enough.
“I think we have to take all the positives of this performance in the first half, we see ourselves strong, dangerous, that we were also a real threat by contrasting in the game.
“I thought we were well advocated.
