How to turn off notification summaries powered by Apple Intelligence

With iOS 18Apple blew it Apple Intelligencewhich includes an AI-powered feature to summarize notifications. When you have a bunch of notifications from an app, the feature summarizes the content of all the notifications in a card that appears on the lock screen. You can discard the stack after reading the summary, or tap on it to check individual notifications.

However, the function is not always accurate. Occasionally, it results in funny resultsand other times fails to correctly summarize the content of the notifications and includes visible inaccuracies. If you think notification summaries cause confusion instead of being helpful, you can disable them or customize them.

On iPhone/iPad

Head to Settings > Notifications and tap on the Summarize Notifications tab. There are two options: You can turn off AI-powered summary notifications for all apps by toggling the Summary Notifications option at the top, or you can turn off notifications for each app.

On Mac

Click on the Apple menu in the upper left corner and go to System Settings > Notifications. Click the Summary Notifications tab, then turn off Summary Notifications. Similar to the iPhone/iPad settings options, you can turn off notification summaries for selected apps.

There is no way to turn off notification summaries for a specific app category, such as news, productivity, utilities, shopping, travel and finance.

Apple said in January that it will issue a software update to better indicate that notification summaries are generated by AI and may have some errors.
